I'm brand new to motorcycles. I looked at the metrics but really wanted a Harley. An '07 883 Low showed up used on Craigslist for a good price and I jumped on it. So far so good. They're very good bikes and easy to ride. I say go for it!!

I don't know about a sporty as a starter bike. I got my XR1200 as a ending bike since I'm 69 yoa.

Just a hint. Go look at a Buell 1125. Priced about the same as a 1200C and is an awesome performer.

Filmy, just what is it that stirs your desirability factor?
WTF? Ric, if you're simply trying to be a dick after misreading someone else's post - you've accomplished that. Either learn to read (and understand) or keep your mouth shut.

"Shees...."

It's all about you, what feels right to you and why. It's in my family, I inherited my Harley. Loud pipes saves lives, that roar from my bike I love it all. The smooth ride of my 1989 FLHS, the freedom she gives me out on the road....all my worries fade away. Knowing I'm riding an American legend & the bike my uncle once owned. I put miles on her almost every day. SO many reasons why i ride a Harley. So in the end it is about you. If a Honda feels better ride it....but most importantly just ride!!! I love H-D and I will always push it but as long as you ride even a jetbike you are a friend of mine! As some1 said earlier though, there is a good chance later in life you will want a Harley. Good luck with the bike!

go with the 883. I bought my Iron the morning of the MSF class. I rode it to class the second day. That was 2 weeks ago and now I am approaching 700 miles! I love the bike and feel it has plenty of power and is just the right size. I am 6ft 230lbs. I wanted a Harley for a long time and couldn't resist the Iron. It's a great starting bike that you can build to be bigger if you ever feel the need. Cost wise the Iron is $2500 less than the nightster and can be made into a 1200 and still come in less than a stock 1200.
