Default Need a little help with color shop.

Ok, first post... here goes.

I've been riding dirt bikes all of my life, started when I was 9. I'm now 24 and have been riding sport bikes since I was 18. Long story short, I'm thinking of doing the unmentionable and picking up an 09 1200 low :looks around for lighting strike:. I have a couple questions I'm hoping people can help me out with.

1) Has anyone ever used HD's color shop? Is the quality worth the price or is it better to get a custom shop to paint it.

2) This is going to sound silly, but where do you guys keep your registrations/insurance cards etc. (assuming you don't own saddlebags.)

Thanks in advance,

Daniel.

Keep insurance in my wallet, (not required to show registration in OK.) I would personally go with a custom indy painter. Good luck!!

I used it a few times quality is about the same as a skilled painter but for some of the more rare colors they don't have all of the color matched parts, like I had Aztec Orange on my sportster and i needed to buy the paint and have a painter do it, price is the same or less than having a skilled painter yield the same result.

The reason I'm asking is because I would rather pick the bike up already painted then to get the bike and take it straight to the painters.

Then yeah HD would be the way to go, however, it does take a LONG time 4-8 weeks for them to get it to you/the dealer depending on the work that needs to be done. Are you getting color matched accessories or doing the sheet metal exchange?

Haven't decided yet, I figured sheet metal exchange would prob. be best.

Well I'm not 100% sure on how sheet metal exchange works but HD's fit and finish especially paint, has been top notch in my experiences.

I would go with HD's paint. going to another painter might take months to get done.

I've never had anything custom painted but I assumed it would take a while.
