Need help from sporty owners!!!!!!
Ok I bought the wife a 03 883 xlh. Only problem is the bars are so low and forward she feels as if shes leaning forward. She's 5'5" and after 50 miles or so says its hurting between the shoulder blades. My question to you guys is how tall of bar can i go with without changing cables and wiring? Im thinking of the stock dyna mini apes or a 10" mini-ape. Or should i just be on the safe side and go with the sporty buckhorns and longer pullback risers? Any advice and pics would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

best thing to do is throw a towle over the tank and take the bars off the risers and pull them up as far as they will go without putting stress on any of the cables, measure from the risers to the bar and that is how many inches you have to play with. i would say to make life super easy, jus get some 6" pull back risers and throw them on, that way you don't need to redue wires, grips, cables, anything, just a simple swap out, probley take 20 min tops.
good luck

I think the 10" mini apes may require cable changes. If you go with the buck horns and pullback risers you may also need to lenghten the cables/wiring. You could try the 2002-2008 Dyna Low bars that are more like flat track bars. The dimensions are: 31" wide, 5" rise, 9" pullback and 7½" center width. I got a polished stainless steel set for $54 from the dealer.
Good luck.

Same issue with my 2007 883. I guess they call them minny buckhorns. It pulled back the ride posture a good 4, maybe 5 inches. All the cables reach except the brake line. You can replace it with a longer one , or do what I did and unbend it (very careful). You can bend it by hand. I used a pair of tin knocker pliers with tape on the jaws. Next your gonna want to know how to get the left grip off. Take off the left controls, then, take an ice pick and slide it in the grip. Go all the way around a few times then just wiggle it off. Hope this helps. Tell the wife (be safe and enjoy her new ride from all of us!). Best of luck, keep em in the wind................HOLLYWOOD
P.S. Hit the thead back if you think you need more help

ok here is the deal, I have 10 inch on mine and didnt have to change the cables (had to loosen the brake cable and scoot it a little in the bracket)
you can put on the 12 inch mini apes without changing the cables BUT you will have to bend the cable ends to make them work. I am only 5'5 and have forwards on mine and my 10 inch work great and I can stretch out and be comfortable

o.k., i know this will be a strange suggestion, but i think that the problem isnt the bars...
i think that the problem is the footpegs-
move those babies forward (forward controls) and i think that there is a good chance that she will have that problem solved. and its nice to stretch out a bit too.
if she likes stretching out, and especially if she is a fairly new rider, a crash bar that she can put her feet on is another thought. i have one on my bike and its nice to have a place to stretch out once in awhile. i have a lindbar on mine now and its a nice ride.
btw, thats a real clean '03- nice bike!!
