Default Clutch Adjustment

Still new to the forum but this is a great source of info. I searched the threads about this and saw some comments specific to my question but not completely so here goes:

Does everyone's else friction point move towards the lever being all the way out after the clutch adjustment? I followed the manual and the Bikernet example and now I have a more positive engagement of the clutch - meaning it is at a definite point now as before it was more vague. But the location of the friction point moved away from the grip - at the 3/4 point of the release as opposed to half way. Normal? Also, it seems a bit like it might be slipping a tad now that I adjusted it - just not quite the pop in go I had before...maybe I am making that up not sure. Any thoughts on the change in the friction point? I had thought the clutch to be a tad tight before as under heavy accleration you could actually see the clutch lever move towards the grip. Thanks!

06 1220r 5200 miles - just got to the 5000 mile check-up - the original owner bought it new May 08 and had the stealer do the 1000 mile check-up.

Thanks!

Both - did it per the manual. After the test drive I noticed I had about a 1/4 inch of gap at the ferrel so I went back and tightened that up at the cable adjuster....but I did the cover off adjustment - turn to meet resistance, etc....

When the nut met resistance did you back it out a 1/4 turn? Also, you want the cable to be only an 1/8" away you when you pull on it where it meets the lever. Pull in the lever and grab the cable, when you release the lever the end of the cable should only come out 1/8" at the most, when I adjust mine at the inspection cover I only back out the nut 1/8 of a turn.......cause I likes the peppy-ness it gives her .

Thanks Sick. I will try backing off the nut an 1/8th of a turn as it seemed a but loose at 1/4 turn. I will also use the dime trick when I adjust the cable ferral again. But any thoughts on it feeling like it is slipping? Maybe I ended up slightly past 1/4 turn when adjusting for the nut and spring in the cover?

I like the way the clutch engages now....I just do not like where the engagement is in the lever motion.

I have been told the friction point tends to move away from the lever with age...just want to double check with the folks here. Thanks all.

Where your bike is still new I wouldn't worry about the age thing, from what is sounds like you just need to readjust at the insp cover. Keep us posted.

Nope, he needs to go back into the derby and redo it......go to the tight side of the spec on the screw, then adjust the cable.

Doesn't the Roadster have a Tach? If the clutch is slipping, you should be able to see that on the tach.
