Default '02 883R help!

Alright ladies and gents..... need your help and opinions. Here goes:

My father-in-law just bought an '02 883R w/1200 conversion kit in it. He's only put 250km's on the bike and had to pull over the other day when it "started gettin' loud in the front" and the oil light came on. He towed it down to the local dealer who looked at it and said the bottom end was gone and that he'd need a complete rebuild, HOWEVER according to the cheif mechanic when he was trying to find the parts online he found out that the bottom end on these motors are sealed and/or "non-serviceable". If he wanted to rebuild it he was going to have to buy a whole new block with the crank assembly already in it. He told them not to do it and instead bought an '03 1200 to put in. The guy he bought that engine from said the dealership was full of it and that of course you could rebuild it.

Sooooo the million $$$ question is: Does anyone know if these engines can be rebuilt and/or where to find parts or part numbers for them.

Thanks in advance
F1

mods: Wasn't sure if this should be posted in tech section or not... if so please move (sorry if that's the case)

Yes, they can be rebuilt. The MoCo has all the parts. The part numbers are in a genuine HD parts manual.

OK that's great news. I pretty well figured as much... couldn't see how it wouldn't be "serviceable". He was also told the only way to seperate the rods from the crank was with a torch. Seems a bit much for me but I've never seen one to know. I will profess my ignorance, what is MoCo? I'd imagine we would want to track down the proper HD parts catalog before attempting a rebuild. May be a silly question but is there an HD part number for the parts catalog? (or is it a dealer only type thing).

Thanks for all the help
