I'm 6'4'' about 265 and I had no trouble riding mine at all. I did make forward controls for mine though that are +4 inches and that helped quite a bit. I'm recutting the foam in my current seat next. Mine is an '87 though, I rode my buddies '07 and it seemed smaller than mine though. Definitely lower for sure. But it may have just been the way he had his setup, he's only 6'1''
Take advantage og the super ride promo they have going on right now...and find what suits you. everyone thinks of sporties because of the size of their wallet...but a superglide is only $2000 more and equates to about $32 dollars a month payment difference
It's all about what you are use too. You are used to nothing so a Sportster for your first bike will fit you fine. My Ultra and Sportster feel cramped to me after I get off my Wide Glide. I had to put highway pegs on my Ultra and highway bars and pegs on my Sportser to stretch out.You are comparing it to nothing and the size of a Sporster really isn't small compared to other manufacturers. You might like the riding position of a custom sportie with forward controls. Go to a dealer and sit on them.
I'm 6'2" 260 ride a slammed 2002 1200C is great for short trips. But with the lowering kit and 10" shocks, if I run over a penny on the road I feel it. I'm picking up an 09 ultra this thursday, but keeping the sporty for those times when you just wanna ride one.
I'm 6'4 230lb my sportie fits great - especially after extending the forwards 5"
+1 on the seat and suspension upgrades.
