Bad for sporty to go above 75 mph?

Thanks, since I don't have a tach I didn't know where it cut out. I've hit it a couple of times in 3rd crankin' wide open and gettin' it, but not at 115 on the highway. I may add a tach and oil temp guage at some point, but I kinda like the simple clean look of the original setup. So far I haven't found a mounting system that looks good. I may get some stainless and make my own custom mount.

I put a Tach on my ’99 XL883 and I like it. If your XL883 is stock, in 5th gear at 80, you are doing over 4,000 RPM. I did a 650 mile Highway ride from Redondo Beach CA to Phoenix AZ and then back to Kingman AZ all at 80+MPH and the bike sure was a bit buzzy at best but it certainly didn’t hurt it any. I eventually changed out the stock XL883 27 Tooth Transmission drive Pulley to a 30 Tooth Transmission drive Pulley to lower my RPM at 80+ MPH speeds and I am very glad I did. I get better gas mileage and the lower revs make it much more tolerable to ride continuously at 80+ MPH speeds.

i have both an ultra (07) and a sporty 883 (06). the sporty does seem more buzzy than the bagger. i have had it up to 70 but not much more and it felt fine. i have also over revved it and had it cut out, actually it only cuts out one cylinder, but thats enough. but there is just something fun about the sporty buzzing around town and stuff.

I have a sportster 883, its an 2005 so it is rubber mounted. The only mods to it are a K & N air filter and V & H pipes. I use the bike to commute between college and Home, when I'm on the freeway at about 75 mph the engine seems to really be going, since my bike doesn't have a tach, I don't know what rpms I'm pulling. Is it hard on the bike to cruise at 70-75 mph continuously?
And people wonder why I pack 11 gallons of fuel

The only problem I have with speeds over 70 is that the wind is trying to pull my hands off the bars. I found a windshield on Craig's list and installed it. Haven't been able to test it much yet but I'm counting on it helping.
The bike on the other hand is really just stating to breath @ 75. Getting right on top of the cam. she will pop up to 85 with no hesitation in about .5 sec from 70. Now if I can just hold on.
