Default Are ignition modules interchangable?

I have an '86 883, and I have determined the ignition module is bad. I am looking for a replacement, but am having some trouble. The original module part number (on the module itself) is 32410-86. I can't find one of those, so the H-D folks said the new part is 32410-91A, and of course a lot more $. Here's my question - is there more than one ignition module that will work with my bike, of do I have to go the route the 19 year old "Parts Specialist" at my local H-D shop says I have to do? Appreciate any feed back.

That is the correct replacement p/n. You will also need a p/n 32408-90A adapter harness to install it on a pre-90 bike according to the info I have.
