Default 16" Ape Hangers

I want to install my 16" rise ape hangers that I've had for about two years now. Haven't put them on because I thought that buying new cables and everything was going to cost me too much. Now, I'm figuring out that I don't need to spend a fortune. I want to do this on a budget. I'm into bobbers, so I don't need chrome, in fact, I'm not a huge fan period.
So, here's my question: Has anyone else put 16" rise apes on a 2005 Sporty? I want to keep everything else, just raise the height of my handlebars. I need to do this on a major budget. I can do all the work myself with the help of a friend, but I want to know what length of cables you've bought, where from, and how much you spent. Thanks everyone!

Default cables

It depends on what you plan on doing with the risers. This will affect the total length. I spent about 150 dollars for the cables. I got drag specialties cables out of the Dennis Kirk catalog. Throttle, Idle, and clutch were black vinyl, the brake needed to be steel so I got their black Pearl.

Welcome to HDF.

Though +6" over stock on the cables typically works for most applications the only way you will find out what cables you need is to mount the bars on the risers (hopefully short ones and not the the tall pullback risers) and measure for the correct length. As for economical you can often find deals but you can find most of what you need in the Drag. Spec. catalog and order them from www.discountcycleparts.com or other discount vendors. Also try ebay. I would venture to say that black vinyl cables for all will run you about $100 or so. You will also need to extend the wiring harness either by soldering in extensions or use a kit from Namz or Novello.

Good luck and post some pics when your done.

I have 16in apes....put braided lines on for 80 bucks, don't remember how long they are but 16 apes and stock risers give you 20 1/2 total rise.....
