Default Mods and resale value

I've been bit by the mod bug and I'm starting to change out parts on my 1200C. I was wondering how customization affects the resale value of a bike. Should I expect to get some/any/none of what I put into it back when I sell the bike?

Not much. It'll help with reselling, though.

Would you have paid more for your bike oif it had the stuff you want on it already? If yes then you'll just have to hope there is another You when you go to sell it. Personally if there was stuff like a windsheild, bags or a crashbar on mine I wouldn't have paid more since I would be removing them. Pipes, some chrome goodies would be a plus but anytime someone has taken a wrench to something I get leary of as to Why. (.02)

if your thinking of getting something else in the future, just ride it , maintain it and enjoy it, cause you probally wont up the value by very much............good luck!!

Dude, it's a toy, not an investment. Mod it to your liking and enjoy it. Your best bet, IMO, is to save your stock parts. That way if you sell it you're better off returning it to as stock as possible and putting the 'extras' on ebay. That's the best way to get both your enjoyment and money out of everything. Good luck and enjoy the ride.

Yup, what OCD and Mike said. Keep the stock parts for later. Its not an investment - or shouldn't be. BUT....if you do sell it, aftermarket parts won't up the value too much over what the stock parts will bring in. So when you are ready to sell or trade, put as much of the stock parts back on. Then sell the aftermarket stuff on Ebay. That will maximize the return on your investment. Of course the real payoff is owning, customizing, riding, and enjoying your bike.
