the rubber line tends to crack from stress where it is under a retaining ring where it meets the swingarm. this little ring wears into the line itself over time. its good to put a rubber seal there or use a hose protector sleeve under it

I ditto to the OEM line: got a lot of use on the one on there didn't ya? Brake line expirations are 10 years from the "born on" date stamped on the lines and should be changed periodically (I never have either, just some FYI)! Dealership will have or order, J&P Cycles, or the indies that handle "early model" bikes (my '97 is under that realm, too).

aftermarket catalogs have steel braided OEM style cables that include the pressure switch and fit exactly as the OEM lines do, but offer the feel of a braided cable. I would buy that now, and install it properly and you will be fine for YEARS as well as have WAY better braking feel that the squishy rubber lines offer
