looks like crap. ruins the lines. the lower part of the frame will be angled downward. if you ride solo all the time, mount the fender to the swingarm and use fender struts to support it. you'll get the benefits of the lowered look, a nice ride, and your steering geometry wont be all f-ed up so you wont have to worry about getting yourself killed.
if you just gotta have a rigid frame, get a weld-on tail and do it right. it'll look better and people will think you are cool because you ride a real hard-tail.

the wing-arm is a giant hinge with a wheel on the end of it. if you pull the shocks out the whole thing collapses on itself. this changes the steering head angle (in relation to the wheel). increased rake = piggish steering.
if one of the guys with struts has an angle finder they can tell you the exact amount of change.
also, unsprung weight is something to look out for. without suspension your unsprung weight becomes gross vehicle weight. not cool. not cool at all.
with the rear lowered you'll also have problems with dragging in turns.
im not familiar with harley engines so i may be wrong... but there could be potential oiling problems when the engine is tilted backward.

Here's a link to a page in the forums with at least two bikes with struts.

I'm sure there is alot more if you look around on here.

my bike has never had oiling problems, or sluggish steering, i dragged in corners when it was 1 inch higher. been riding struts for a year on crappy alaskan roads and ive had no problems with running struts. to each his own
