I am 6'2" and 185. The misses is 5'4" and 120. We have the 2004 Roadster and through no help from Harley have changed the entire suspension so the bike is comfortable riding 2up. In the stock configuration the suspension had no problems bottoming out and the GVWR was 100 pounds off the printed limit given by Harley. Neither one of us has much of an a$$ so the stock seat wasn't or isn't a problem at all for us and we do ride on day trips that will go from 3 to 4 hundred miles. We have changed the front pulley to 28T which has made roll on much easier for the bike. In all we are very satisfied with the Roadster and one thing is for certain, the bike is a buttload of fun and you can't beat getting 55mpg while riding 2up.

Sportsters are great! but your time 2 up would be more enjoyable on a big twin. There is no getting around they are better bikes for 2 up riding.

I have 60,000 miles on my 05 1200C. About a third of those miles are 2-up. The longest trip I took with my wife was 5800 miles in 2 weeks. I have a Sundowner seat, sissy bar and passenger floorboards. Before the 05, I had an 02 883. We had 27,000 on that when I bought the 05. No problems with comfort or power.

I just bought a 08 Road Glide. My wife says that it is more comfortable, but not by much.

Not like 1000 milers, just maybe 100 mile day trips etc. we were really looking at one to see if she likes riding, if not I will just keep it...if so we will later move up to a dyna...but I don't want to have to immediately do that. Is there really "that much" extra room on a superglide or a street bob (as this is what we were looking at)? I really need input here.
Dude, works fine. Check out this thread for my 2400 mile trip with my wife on my old 883xlc.

1200C does just fine for me and the Mrs. Agree with having to upgrade the seat and suspension right off the bat - but a Mustang on mine for the 2-up riding and looking to upgrade to a set of 12" air shocks off a RK for the back, but for power and ability - no issues whatsoever... Look at the HD quick detach system for the sissy bar as it can go on and off in minutes...

Sure, fine bike. Two items I'd add for heavy use are: Sundowner seat (stock seat is rider-only, really; and Progressive 412 shocks at a minimum (I like them fine).
You could always rent a bike to see what she thinks of riding. And then if you're looking at a Sporty, test-ride it with her on it.

Hi ,
the wife and I put on 8000 miles or so last summer. almost all was done 2 up. our combine wgt is about 360lbs. we are very comfortable to about 300 miles per day we bought the sundowner and quick detach back rest.
I am just shy of 6 ft. the only thing I could suggest is hiwy bars.

The difference for me was when my Sporty was in the shop and they gave me a Dyna loaner for a week or so. When the OL rode with me on that, I had to keep reaching back to see if she was still there! riding 2 up on a sportster will never be that comfortable No matter what seat or shocks you have.

The name says it all, Sportster!

You can do two up on the Sportster but my opinion is it's a tight fit and not as comfortable as a ride. I'd recommend getting the most comfortable 2-up seat you can find. One of the reasons I got my Deluxe in addition to the Sportster was for 2-up riding. My wife refused to ride on the Sportster 2-up so I set it up with a solo seat. Good luck.
