RE: Gas Octane
(From the 2005 Owners Manual):
The 883's run 8.9-1 compression, and the minimum recommended fuel is 87 octane (91 RON).
The 1200's are running 9.7-1 compression, and minumum recommended fuel is 91 octane (95 RON).
And speaking of gasoline blends, especially Methanol....
From the Manual:
"Do not use gasoline that contains methanol. Doing so can result in fuel system component failure, engine damage and or equipment malfunction. (001148a)."

RE: Gas Octane
When I puchased my bike, the guy told me to try & run at least 96 octane because of the high compression. The highest we have in town is 91, so I bought some of those little octane packets from the local Harley dealer. I think they're called Rocket Fuel. & cost $1.60 each. 1 packet treats 2.5 to 5 gallons of gas.

QT Hush,
I think different models of HD's require different octane ratings depending on their compression ratio. The 2005 XL1200R Sportster manual says to use 91 octane, what bike have you got?

RE: Gas Octane
got my first oil change schedualed for next Wed. (bad case of **** glacoma commin on here - (can't see my **** goin to work) so will be callin in sick) - slightly over the 1000 mile mark @ close to 1300 miles but had the blessing of the dealer to keep ridin as long as I kept her under 1500 miles and 200 mph
Will mention and give them this topic but the bottom line amounts to about .80c per tank full at whatever price the pump is stealing (currently 3.05 for 87, 3.25 for 92 octane) - not sure savin a buck is woth the worry, if it is possible, might set a buck aside with every fill up as a chrome account
