Yeah, i agree, i'm going to do what i like, probably get the iron and later if i want to go bigger do a conversion.
I have no need or want to go above 100 (police appreciate that too) nor do I care to have a gigantic bike, I just want to make sure an 883 has enough power to move it's weight, mine (170lbs), and possible the g/f (125) in a smooth fashion while cruisin' around.

A lot of people seems to think that a bike isn't powerful enough unless its huge. I could care less if its 833cc or 1750cc, the speed limit is still 65-75.

Get the Iron. You grow tired of it, trade it off or do the Jug kit and swap the front pulley.

I would have gotten the Iron instead of the Nightster, but it wasn't out yet, perfect for staying out of trouble and a good look.

The 883 has everything you sound like you want. I have absolutely no regrets having bought the 883 instead of the 1200. I've hit 107 on it and I know it could have hit at least 115+. It's quick, manuverable, fun and a great all around bike. I now have a deluxe as well but I find that I take the Sportster to work more often than the Deluxe. It's just easier in traffic, lighter and more fun! I can easily keep up with any of the BT's and I've never been told that it's a girls bike. If it's the Iron you want, get it. If you get the 1200 just because other people told you to, you'll regret it later. But honestly...you'll be happy with either one.

Get the 883 and do a 1200 build when you are ready, and have the time and money to do it right.

If you are 170 and your g/f or wife is 125 you shouldn't have an issue. My father in law is about 210 and mother in law about 130. They have no problem going 2 up around the coast of FL. I think they stay off the highway but that's only because they don't like to ride on the interstate. Good luck! Working on my deal now and should have the Iron come May.

After hashing it out with some friends, we all think the Iron is the way to go. In a few months or years, bust out a new top end kit, let her breathe and ride. This forum is full of people just like you. And 99% seem to be happy. Go with the Iron, save some dollars. Who knows, maybe in a year or two you may skip dynas and softies for a nice streetglide. Save the money for the future and ride now..you will have no regrets when that 883 is throttling up and you are tighting your abs to keep vertical on the bike as you twist it out!

Others may disagree but the 883 is more than plenty quick and jumpy. Simply use common sense with shifting and you will be fine.

Save the money on a stock 1200 and get a 1250 conversion if you feel that you need the power. With the surplus money you can buy something nice for your mother or significant other.

One thing is a certain fact, the 883 Sporty will best most cages in a quarter mile and it will go fast enough to get you a ticket in any of the 50 states. If you want a bike that will safely go 100mph then Harley isn't the bike for you. This isn't to say a Harley won't go 100mph, just that there are bikes out there that cruise at 100mph like a Harley does at 50mph. This is why I have both.
