**How Many Iron 883 Owners Out There?**
#2011
My sig pic is pretty much the way my grl sits today ... SO far not as much done as I would have liked but I am adding as a go and as things come along. I got a great deal on the exhaust and the forward controls - only 250 cash total for both still in boxes a guy bought a superlow purchased a ton of stuff for it than he returned it and got a wideglide so his loss equaled my gain
Flipped mirrors
reflectors - delete
front fender - delete
blacked out front turn signals
HD - Black Diamond grips
HD - Badlander seat ( only on when riding gf )
HD - Forward controls
Cycle Shack - exhaust

Just picked her up last night!
2010 Iron, alot of stock, a little not so much:
-Vance and Hines Exhaust
-Forward Controls
-Screamin Eagle Intake
-Passanger Pegs
Just picked my bike up last night, first time ever riding anything but a sport bike..Quite a change going from a bike that can do 85 in first to one that barley does 40 ha. But i really like it, going to flip the mirrors and start the modding soon. Sooo many options and its great to be able to come on here for help and ideas!
Next up:
-Passanger Pillion
-1200 kit eventually
-Too much to list!

So I've been toying with the idea of adding a Nightster to my garage since I first saw one back in '08. I was about to pull the trigger when I discovered the Iron. This bike stock with half the mods I was gonna do to the nightster. And it's $2,000 less! My current "big bike" is a Kawasaki Vulcan 800 and I rarely need more power than it has so I don't see the 883 vs 1200 to be an issue (plus I can always do the 1200 kit later).
So down to my question... I've put my list of mods together and was wondering if those of you with V&H pipes, screamin eagle stage 1 and PCV could tell me what kind of mileage they are getting vs stock setup. Specifically, can I go over 100 miles on a tank of gas. That's the current range fo my Vulcan with the bobber mods I've done.
Thanks

(HD Or Bust) - I know the feeling, I picked up my IRON883 three weeks ago - new. Dealer wouldn't give me anything for my Ducati Monster, so I kept it - bummer - I now have both! First time I hit a small roundabout (the UK equivelent of a four way stop, but without lights and with a circular lawn in the middle), I scraped the inside peg of the Sporty all the way arround - it is certainly a different riding style, but I like it! As I leave a town and hit the open road I need to remind myself that 60 is fast enough; just enjoy the riding experience.
I was dissapointed with the stock sound and look of the chrome pipes, so fitted Black V&H short shots (w/ quite baffles - damn the're loud; I'd not want to risk running them naked), Screaming Eagle filter and re-fueler. Delighted to discover that the the H-D is a lot easier to work on than Ducati, even if I did have to invest in a bunch of antique tools - was that a metric nut I found on the starter motor ground strap?
How do the forward controls work for you? How tall are you? I worry that my right leg will foul on the stock air filter can.
My ideas are to:
Remove/cover as much chrome/brushed metail as possible - I like it black!
Might paint out the H-D logo on tank too
Forward controls.
Better mirrors - I can't see anything other than my elbow in the stock ones.
Straight bars with riser - ala Dennis Hopper's bike.
Sundowner seat w/ backrest
I have some route 66 saddle bags, that I want to work out how to make fit.
Generaly have some fun.
(Blk Jk) - I have put a few tanks thru since the stage 1 upgrade. I don't wait for fuel warning, but have run into the 90's more than once before refuelling. I'd be surprised if I can't get 100+ miles out of a tank, but we don't have ethanol in our petrol here and I'm not sure how that effects mpg. And what the hell man - you pay nothing for gas :-) Buy one! You will not regret it!

I had mine with the same setup and made it to 130 once before filling up. Even now with a 1200 conversion, I made it to 110 before the danger zone.

mileage....
Hey BLK JK
I bought mine in July of last year, I have a pwr commander five, straight pipe/mufflers and the K&N intake, I still get 45 MPG, and last week was on the HWY all day and squeezed out 140 miles from one tank full. Still had a few drops left in it too. A lot has to do with your weight as well, Im 155.
I have put 14,000 miles on it n 11 months and my fuel averages really never changed much from stock...HTH.
Cheers

I believe someone may have already suggested it before this reply, but try flipping and switching your stock mirrors. Alot of people have done that and it seems to work! I'll probably end up doing that as well!
