i have been considering changing the front fork oil to a heavier grade oil to stiffen up the front end from sag. is this really going to make a difference or should i just wait and change out the springs to progressive springs? just looking for advice or opinions and the bike has about 5k miles on it and is an 08. thnx for input

 

Don't waste your time with heavier oil if the problem is sag. Get the Progressive springs.

Harley still puttin them bad springs in still,what a shame,they cant make it ride right from the factory.

Progressive is the way to go,then it ride nice

 

I sent my progressives back on the advice of a HD service desk tech. What a mistake. They put heavier fork oil in, now the forks slam at high speeds, early.

thanks guys yea new springs were def on the list for down the road if i dont switch to a springer first. but i was just wondering if i should even waste my time with the oil and i guess i shouldnt bother. thanks for advice guys! thats why i love this place.

 

First question you should ask yourself is... does your problem lie with dampening or bottoming out... then go from there...

Rare occasion that I disagree with cHarley. The Progressive springs are certainly the fix for the front suspension. However, before I got the Progressive springs, I switched to Screamin Eagle fork oil, and that did significantly stiffen up the front suspension. A year or so later, I got the Progressive springs, and went back to regular fork oil. Until the Springs are in your budget, heavier weight fork oil will make an improvement.

 

How easy is it to change out the fork oil?

Is anyone here running the Progressive fork springs? if so, big difference over the stock? I'm running 412s in the back but stock springs up front and the front bottoms out more often than I would like. Also, any change to handling?

 

Yes, i have the progressive front springs, make a big differance with 20 wt oil. Mine is also lowered 2'' with the progressive set up. I'm 210 lbs and it has never bottomed out.
