Default Test rode the 883 iron today.

Went to the dealer today and the only 883 sportster they had on the showroom floor was the iron. So I took it for a spin. I must say the bike was a lot of fun to ride. It seems to me that the bike is lighter than the rest of the sportster models. Overall the bike looks good and rides like a sportster should. The one thing that sticks out to me is the heat shields and the mufflers are the only chrome parts on the bike. I would buy it because it's different.

I think that with tne new Iron, a lot of people is realizing of Sportster qualities.

I means light weight, maneuverability, easy to ride on city, nice look and a lot of history (since 1957, Sportster is the oldest Harley that's still in production)

Enjoy your new bike!!!!

Looks overpriced to me. It is not the cheapest Sporty. If the MoCo wanted to stimulate their economy, they need to build a bare bone Sporty for about $5995, like they did years ago with the $3995 Sporties.

Althought this will take some heat, they need to drop the 883 altogether. It makes no sense to build the darn thing. They should just make them all 1200's and be done with it. It costs no more to build a 1200 engine. I don't see the point in the 883. It makes no sense to build an lesser powered product when you can build a more powerful one for the same money.

I never thought about that. I am sure it has something to do with market share in the under 1000 cc area. It would be interesting to know.

I'd guess it has more to do with upgrades and trade-ins. They make a ton of money off 1200 conversions and people trading up to more powerful bikes.

That would be great if you could guarantee the price out the door would be the same as a 883. From the MOCO's view its another bike to sell. If sales are good why drop it just because its lesser powered. When you hear 883 the only bike that comes to thought is the Sportster. Its a Classic

Harley needs to be careful about taking too many steps backwards when the heart of the cruiser market is moving down in displacement. It may not be wise to abandon 883 displacement when experts predict that the future of the market is below that level (800cc for cruisers and 600cc for performance). I would prefer not to see Harley try to duplicate the Detroit school of management. Last time I checked, a Coke cost more than a share of GM. Anyone for a $50k Corvette?
