I bought my nightster last June.
If the 883 Iron was out at that time, I would of got it instead of the nightster in a heartbeat. I wanted to get an 883 instead of a 1200 because it was my first bike and I also didnt want to spend that much money. The problem was, I fell too much in love with the nightsters looks, so I went with it.

With that being said, I am very happy that the 883 Iron WASN'T out when I got my bike because now that I am comfortable on a motorcycle and with the 1200, I could NEVER go to a slower bike!

The Nightster > The 883 Iron

They will sell about a billion Iron's, which will be good for me because too many people have nightsters. Lucky for me I got the blue one and haven't seen another one in real life yet!

I used to have a black '98 883 Hugger. I wish I still had it.

I was at Fullerton H-D this afternoon and they have one Iron in their showroom alongside three Nightsters. I was told by their manager it is their fourth they've had, the others were sold. The Iron I sat on was tagged at $7,299 MSPP with an OTD tag of $9,270. I then sat on a Nightster-- maybe it was just that particular Iron, but I thought perhaps the Iron's handlebars were rolled too far forward in the clamp, as the Iron's reach was further away than the Nightster.

In speaking with the sales manager, he indicated their service department does a large number of 883 to 1200 conversions, and he is seriously considering taking a brand new Iron, having it converted to a 1200, then putting that out on the floor with a full factory warranty. The manager I met was nicknamed "Disco", if anyone wants to call him to learn more about it.

I was quoted MSRP by a dealer today and I will be going back to that dealer and purchase this bike within a two month window. I am 6ft 230lbs. I chose the Iron because of its look. I fell inlove with the 1200N in Black and Orange but feel that its more than I need for my 16 mile comute in city traffic to work. I will never have a passenger and if for some reason I feel the need for more bike then the 1200 kit is an option.

$8400 sounds good. Got a quote of $8500 today and a discount on parts. Going to see if I can get another dealer to go lower. Good luck!

I just bought my Iron yesterday. I think it will be a fun and great starter bike. Plus always have the option to upgrade 1200. Can't wait for some warmer weather to get some real ride time.
