Finally!!!
After a two and half month wait - 7000+ miles by land and sea our two Harley Davidson's (2008 Nightster and 2009 1200C) have finally made it from California to Rome.
My girlfriend and I have relocated to Rome from the US abs coukld not leave the bikes. So at some cost as we had them specially packed they were deluivered finally today at the Rome HD dealership which is less than a mile from our house. The entire staff came out to help get our bikes off the truck and into the dealership.
The good news is that both bikes are in great condition - just as they left SoCal and all they need is a battery recharge and some fuel and some better weather for the weekend... then watch out Italia!

We have imported them in to the European Community and because they are more than six months old there is is no import tax.
So we can ride them and insure them - and we can ride them for six months on US plates which we will do. Then it gets interesting as we then have to register them with the Italian authorities and have them issued with Italian plates... I'll worry about that later in the year.
They are also supposed to pass a single vehicle special import test that changes some of the fixtures and fittings - in particular the rear brake lights needs to be orange rather than red , the side mounted plate has to go on the rear fender and I can't, in theory ,have that bobbed rear fender... Have any of you guys seen the UK/European version of the Nightser? - defeats the wholeèpurpose of the Bobber look.
However this is not the UK where they seem to enjoy enforcing all the rules This is Italy and providing the bikes are insured I don't think we will have too much to worry about.
I guess theft is the same anywhere. These will be kept locked up when not in use and on the open road we'll take secutrity locks with us if we stop.
Love the Nightser but am not going to lose sleep over it being stolen. I'll deal with that - if god forbid - that ever happens.
