Default tank removal tips

Ok, I've got the new bars on, new grips on, and my speedometer relocated. I'm preparing to relocate the front turn signals and I plan on using the "home made relocation kit" which consists of the 3/8-16 x 2 bolt welded to a 5/16-24 x 1" bolt. This is the only homemade setup that I have seen, so, I'm trying it. It appears that I'm going to have to take off the fuel tank and unhook the turnsignal wires so that when I thread the them onto the 5/16 bolt they wont twist the wires and possibly damage them. I think I read previously that there was a check valve in the fuel tank therefoe when I unhook the fuel line, it won't poor fuel everywhere. Is this true? The last thing I want to do is get gasoline all over the bike and me. Anyone have any tips before I do this?

I had to put new signals on my bike when I bought it because the previous owner had cut the old lines. All I had to do was unbolt tank, lift it up a bit, and tilt it to the right, there wasn't really any need for me to take the tank off. You will have to access that connection on the left side, and like I said, I had enough room by just lifting and tilting it.

The fuel line quick disconnect will NOT spill any fuel. Well maybe a couple drops but that's it.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I think I'll see if I can sneak out of the house and try that here in a few.

dude you shouldn't have to touch your gas tank or gas lines to relocate your turn signals. am i missing something here? couldn't hurt either to get the manual for your bike which explains how to disconnect/reconnect everything. post some pics, i'm curious as to what this "homemade" kit looks like.
