'93 XLH 1200 - Fork Seal Replacement Help
Hey gang, it's been a while since I've stopped by. I'm in need of a little help today. My fork seals are leaking on my 1993 XLH and I wish to replace them. Trouble is I have no idea where to start. I don't have a service manual - I generally don't need them once I've been pointed in the right direction. I'm fairly mechanically inclined and once I'm steered into the right direction, I can usually figure it out as I go along. Having said that, anyone care to steer my in the right direction? Where do I start? Will I require any special tools? How long should this change take? I bought the stock fork oil from Harley for the bike...Anyone use something different? Should my springs be changed once I'm in there? What else might I need to know? Thanks gang!! As always, your help is always appreciated!
Cheers!!

I would first start out by buying "Fix my Hog" DVD. One section features fork oil change on a 1991 XLH sportster. It doesn't go into changing seals, but there's alot of good tips on how to change the oil. I did mine a month ago. I knew what to expect by viewing the video, especially cautious about the pre-load in the spring when removing the top bolt.
Also I would search jpcycles.com for your particular seal. I know there is a "spacer seal" and an "oil seal", two different parts.
good luck
