Your experience is what I hear most of the time about them. Hence my surprise when they fell apart on me.

I like the Harley fingerless gloves. I have a few style of fingerless gloves from them.

I just added my fourth pair of gloves: winter big gauntlets (expensive and worth it). But, the pair that I wear the most is a simple pair of fingerless, mesh, weight lifting gloves. They are inexpensive and have great palm padding.

My fingerless gloves are actually meant for weight lifting too, brand name is Harbinger. Got them at Sports Authority for about $15. Had them 3 years now. Sill in good shape. Like BWLucky said, the palm padding is great.
