Default Self canceling turn signals

The one thing that irrites me is the self cancelling turn signals on my sporty. Yes I confess to recently (last ten years) ridden a lot of metrics and got used to the single left hand turn switch. When I bought the sporty I thought it was an interesting feature that the turn signals were self cancelling, and although it took a bit of getting used to the two turn switches, but muscle memory is being retrained.

What I don't like is that the self canceling signals aren't! Yes they cancel sometimes, but then again they don't on many occasions, I'm not talking about lane changes here, full turns. The real reason for the complaint is that I now have to double check if the blinker has cancelled itself, which is a big distraction. I'm a big advocate of the book "a twist of the wrist" and one of the key points is the the amount of time you give over to distractions.

Anyway, just wondering if maybe my upright sensor (or what ever it's officially called) is bad.

Cheers,

Mark

no problem here either. mine go's off easily. I'm haven't done a research yet but some reason I think there might be a way to change the setting on them.

Never had a problem with mine. Even if they don't turn off like in a slight turn they cancel themselves out after a few seconds.

Your turn signals should turn themselves off after a few seconds even if you are driving straight down the road. So there is something wrong on your bike.

Ditto on the no problems front - they should cancel after 1/4 mile anyway. If they don't it could be a problem with your TSSM. (Turn signal module)

Thanks for all the replies, figured there was something flaky going on, will take it to the dealer tomorrow. scooterbooty, just knew there had to be a real part name for the getting it up and level sensor.

Cheers,

Mark

If you're going above 7mph the turn signals will flash 20 times, then cut off. If you drop below 7 mph they will flash until you cancel them, (hitting switch again) Also they are supposed to cancel after a turn of at least 45 degrees. All according to the Clymer Sportster book.
