Default Letting out the clutch in 1st

I been thinking lately that one of the possible reasons I think the "bike" is slow is because I'm letting the clutch out when accelerating from a stop too slow. I shift around 25 from 1st to 2nd I would say, and I think I'm holding onto the clutch too long. When would you say you typically let it out fully when accelerating normally from a stop?

I don't know that I am reading this right. In my case the clutch is fully released right off the light and I don't feather it at all. Typically I'm in second by 30mph.

See from what I remember from when I ride, I think I'm holding onto the clutch at least somewhat till just about before I shift, and I'm thinking thats too long. When I do let the clutch out early I get a little jerk (I'm not letting it out in a fast motion; its a smooth release). I'll have to test this out the next time I ride. I'm guessing I'm still on the clutch till around 15-20 mph.

If you find your "friction zone" on your clutch it makes it much easier to start from a stop w/o all the jerking etc. My "friction zone" is about half way so if at a stop I hold at half way it's much easier to ease off from a stop.

I agree but it sounds like he is holding the clutch from fully releasing until he is up to around 15-20mph or so and that's not good on clutch plates. The clutch should be fully released by that point.

Unless I am in heavy traffic,my clutch is fully engaged at 3-4 mph... Sounds like you are an 'automatic transmission kinda guy'...:>)

My clutch is out by the time I'm at 5 mph at the most. Don't drag your clutch so long ripto, you'll be replacing it before too long. Then again............buy an aftermarket clutch, cause the stock clutch sucks anyway so go ahead and burn it up. You can buy a clutch pack for around 70 bucks on ebay which will include more plates and a tighter spring for your stock basket.

Yeah I had a feeling I shouldn't be doing that, but never really thought about it till now. I'll have to try to rev it up and be off the clutch by 5 mph latest and see how things go.
