What does d401 or d402 mean on dunlap tires

D401 and D402 are model designations. Dunlop lists the 401 as a cruiser tire and the 402 as a touring tire although they both say Harley Davidson on the side and the tread pattern is the same.

There's a difference in load ratings & tire construction is about all....Same tread pattern. 402's have a higher load rating.

I don't think you can get the 402's in a 19 inch for the front though the 401 does offer the 19 inch. I just replaced the tires on my '99 883 with Dunlop K591's both front and rear. Dunlop shows them as an upgrade to the 401, and they still have the Harley-Davidson on the sidewall.

I used the K591 as my second set and while I felt they were a marked improvement over the factory D401 they were no where near as nice as the Conti Milestone I am running now.
