Default XR1200 – USA Production Run (???/750)

Hey all! This is an off-shoot to another post.
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/sport...-its-here.html

Calling all XR1200 owners, or soon to be owners.
I’d like to know if our bikes can be determined which of the 750 we took delivery of. And, if indeed Harley holds to making only 750 (which I see no real reason not to hold to the 750).

Given the information that “7/11 The Crapshooter” gave us (thank you) .
“OK, this brings something up that I knew could happen but wasn't sure if Harley would do it this way. The last 6 are the serial number but they use a series of 3 numbers to start off the sequence so rather than start with unit 1 at 000001 they will use their own sequence starting with other numbers that only mean something to Harley.

The first number in the VIN is the country of origin (1), the second and third is the manufacturers designation (HD) the forth is the weight code, the fifth and sixth are the model code, the seventh is the engine code, the eighth is the introduction date code, the ninth is a check digit for their own us, the tenth is the year, the eleventh is the plant designation and the 12th through seventeenth is the serial number.

We need more XR1200 owners to see the extent of the run. At this point I am going with yours being 307 of 750.”

I’d like to hear your ending serial numbers to test our theory out. Mine ends in 432307, and should then be 307/750.

So, what number do you own?

This is great and we can add a bit to it. If you happen to be at a Harley dealer that has one, write down the last six and where you saw it. We can get more numbers in the mix this way.

i dont think that the vin shows the number i looked at the mso(manufacturers certificate of origin) on my bike when it showed at the dealer it listed my bike as #121 of 750. but the last of my vin is 341. the thing is this lot of bikes were randomly pulled from the line of bikes slated for european sales and made to comply to u.s. spec. i understand all 750 were boxed and sitting in a warehouse and randomly shipped after the preship orders came in from the dealers with the larger dealers getting there pre orders first.

Hummm....
My dealer said HD did not track the sequence of the bikes. But, you're stating the MSO physically states "121 of 750"? Do you have the MSO that came with it? Or, does the dealer keep that for their records? I plan to take delivery of mine this weekend, and that would be good to know, and ask

This is interesting and brings up a problem if we are to ever actually know where they started and if they simply took 750 out of the total production run for US delivery. In effect, we would have to know the last 6 on every one we could get out hands on to find out where it started and where it ended and even then we couldn't be sure until we had all 750 of them. If Harley were nice we could ask them. To a collector, the coveted #1 would be worth huge bucks.

Will some one from that group too please verify my hunch?

I've always been told/thought the MOCO kept all #1 bikes of a run.
