RE: New sportster, or old sportster?
I just picked up this 1980 XLH Sportster very cheap and am considering restoring it but I don't like the look of it compared to newer ones. If I change the gas tank for a later one and also the seat will it give it a more modern look - that's assuming I can fit a later tank and seat. Is there much difference in the shape of the frame ie wheelbase, fork angle, etc.?
Anyone?
Thanks
Dan
ps. I know its a bit of a rat but it was CHEAP and I have a half decent workshop.
Anyone?
Thanks

Love All Sporty's
The great think about a Harley is you can customize the heck out of it to make it the way you like. You can install a wide tank, change the seat, fenders, color, primary cover, breather, handle bars and exhaust. Changing all that will give the bike a totally different look.

Older deff. For me anyways , love the looks , the ride .
the older ones are also lighter , at least 86-03 vs 04 and up .
Ive rode a 05 1200c and 2018 883 iron , liked both but still wanted back on my 99 soon as i got off them both.
Noticed a huge diff in mine vs there and deff. Preferred my 99

I know, old thread.
I did a lot of looking around and decided I wanted up to an 03, had to be a 5 speed. From all the looking around, and for the simplicity I wanted, it had to be a rigid. After reading about rubber mounts going bad, vibrations not a lot better, heavier bike by 70ish?? pounds. More electrics and issues with newer bikes like security, etc. I think I made the right decision for me.
