I have to agree with ngoti8tor, that's from heat buildup at the joint. Chrome polish may help some, but you can't polish away a heat discoloration like that.

I use Blue-Job, when I detail bikes. You can find it at most Harley dealers. Follow the instructions, the gold color should come off.

Hmm I tried Blue Off I think it was and it didn't do much of anything. I'll check that stuff out.

You have to follow the instructions. It will take some elbow grease and time. It is the best that I've tried and I've tried a lot of products.

I tried blue off twice on the area and I think it actually did help remove a lot of the goldish color. Here are the before and after pics:

BEFORE

AFTER

There is still some gold but most likely right by the weld in close to it and it's hard to get rid of that. Overall, thumbs up to blue job.

It looks way better after your cleaning pics...But I think it might be from the lack of cleaning, (look at all the junk on the swingarm), & the front exhaust blowing on that joint combined with the insufficeint tuning, (past post of lack of take off), or that joint is leaking. But it looks 100 times better.

Actually I bought the pipes off of a member here and they were like already like that, I assumed from heat. I admit the bike was dirty and I finally got around (no class and it was warm) to washing it today, but the gold color never budged under water/soap/chrome polish. But I do agree it looks a lot better.
