Are Sporsters considered real Harleys?

Still love Sportsters
Have an EGS for touring but the Sportster is my First Love always will be even at 59 years old have no intention of giving it up.. First Feel in Love with Sportsters when bought a 1969 XLCH brand new as shown in the Pic .. 40 years later almost still miss it but treasure the memories of what was my first love and the best bike ever owned...

I used to occasionally get crap like that. It stopped after I won the Chapter Mileage challenge last year.
The average miles per chapter member was less than 500 that year. I rode over 18,000. I wasn't really trying to win, and was kinda surprised that I did, but they don't give me any crap after that.
Also shuts them up when they are all in their cage because it's too (cold or hot or wet...etc etc) for them to ride, and I show up on my bike.

Seadog,
Next time yell "Ill race you light to light, title for title, and l'll see your real bike in my mirrors, and your pink slip in my hand"
"Come on man, its only a girls bike"
I did that on friday to a guy on a big dresser ricers. He shook his head and walked away.

Why is it the Sportster is called a girls bike and I see more women on the Dyna or Softail?

I'd like to hear some of them say that in front of a real MC.I've met plenty of 1%ers who ride, and love,Sportsters.Seems like most of the people who have been riding for a long time have a love for the Sportster too.
When I was a kid growing up in the 70's it seemed like everyone had a Sportster.I loved those bikes and still do.The way I remember it is some time in the mid/late 80's all the yuppies started buying H-D's(Malcome Forbs riding one down Wall St. comes to mind). We called them American Express bikers. They plopped down their cards and bought the most expensive bikes and costumes right on the spot. They rode to the local dealer on the weekends to role play for a couple of hours and then back to the office on Monday.Seemed like all of a sudden the Sportster we all loved became a "half a Harley","starter bike","girls bike", etc..I don't remember the Sportster ever being looked down upon before that time in the '80's
To me the Sportster is pure H-D and still my favorite Harley.

Most long time bikers that I've known and ridden with over the years have either owned a Sportster over the years or currently own a Sporster in addition to whatever BT they might happen to have.
Myself and most of these guys would never say anything negative to anyone riding a Sportster.
I've mentioned this in the past, but some of you must be hanging around the wrong crowd, as I've talked to many guys I know that currently own Sportsters or have owned them in the past (including myself), and not one person mentioned having a problem with anyone making fun of either them or the bike.
But anyway, I wouldn't worry about anyone that has anything negative to say about a Sportster, as they are usually the 'weekend warrior' type pirates that are under the false illusion that the make of Harley they own (or the bank owns) gives them some type of higher pecking order in the motorcycle community.
These fools have yet to realize that you don't gain any special status or respect because of the model of bike you ride. Respect is earned by the rider, not the bike, and it doesn't matter what they happen to ride.
And the last time I looked my Sportster does have a "Harley Davidson" emblem on both sides of the tank, the same as my Big Twins.....

I do agree though, what a bunch of douches. I wouldn't have been able to resist and said something to the ******* who said "get a real bike". Unbelievable.
