Are Sporsters considered real Harleys?

yeah i agree, im a pretty big guy myself and a sporty was all i could afford, and i would rather have my small harley then get a bigger jap cruiser, when ppl give me a hard time i ask them if they will buy me a bigger bike, so when they say no, i just tell em to shut they're mouth then

I hear ya. It's definately not a bike built for my body. Love the sportsters though. Had to have one, and it just so happens to fit into my budget.

The hog ralleys are a bunch of old men riding around on their electraglides with bucket seats and more money than brains. ignore them and ride what you want. I have a 1200 but have some buddies that ride 883's and even a few that ride jap bikes.

ditch the whole HOG thing. i was in the neighborhood of a stealer and stopped by to get some tranny fluid. they were having a local HOG chapter meeting and there were about 50 people there yet i only saw about 7-10 bikes in the parking lot. that didn't stop about everyone there from wearing their chaps though. :/

- A Sportster is closer to the Harley tradition than an EG with throttle by wire, cruise control, GPS, and a stereo.
- A lot of Arlen Ness's early builds were based on Sportsters and the Sportster engine and frame have been the base for many Chopper or Bobber builds.
- The Horse BC had an editorial a while back called "When did the Sportster become a girls bike?"
- Honestly, I think some of this crap comes from Harley and its Dealers themselves as a ploy to get people to buy bigger bikes and of course the HOG members follow like sheep(of course bad aZZ black sheep in chaps).
- I think other people like to put down Sportsters is to justify the price tag on their bikes that cost two or three times as much.
- A Sportster is a very good bike for what its designed for. It has its advantages as well as other models have theirs.
- I think the number one reason some people do it is because some Sportster owners get so razed by it.
- Who cares what other people think. If you bought a Harley to upgrade your manly image you're a loser anyway.

Sporter's are definetly real harley's. My sister has an 883 low which is a nice little bike thats fun to ride. It cramps my legs if I ride it for a while though (she dosen't have foward controls).
As long as your riding. which it seems like alot of HOG members do more trailering than riding
