Default 883 coughs boggs and backfires

have an 06
appears to run good, but from time to time, when at a stop and i start up it like boggs down, might cough a bit, maybe backfire and then gets it tune and takes off

happens cold, hot, wet, dry

brought it into the dealer, who i am thinking is pretty good, and had them look at it and it was readjusted.

is only has about 1000 miles on it (yes, that is one thousand).

has after market slip on pipes.

looking for some suggestions. i know it most probably has something to do with the carburetor. and back in the day when i did my own work, carburetors were the thing that always gave me the biggest problem.

again, looking for suggestions on what i can check myself - easily.

or maybe change the way i am driving or something.

thanks in advance.

Also check battery connections for cleanliness and proper connection. Did this phenom start directly after install of AM pipes? Try putting on the AM A/C and having it re-jetted (have a #48 and a 175 in my '01 1200C, for example). Also check coil connections esp. the pink (left side). A few weeks back mine "felt funny" and would periodically cough from the AC until really warmed up. Days later, my tach began to bounce a little. Discovered some corrosion at a solder where repaired rubber booted connection before. Cleaned and resoldered: no problem now.

If your bike just started doing this more it could also just be the weather. Carbed bikes often require a little tweaking season to season with the fuel/air mixture screw.
I know I tend to adjust mine from summer to fall or winter to keep it running the best.

I had a similar issue... to make a long story short it was an oil clogged air filter...

Sounds like an 06 883 with stock air cleaner and carb setup to me. Pretty normal.

Get a more free flowing aircleaner and re-jet and tune the carb.

Don't be intimidated by the carb work. I had never done any at all. I followed the steps in the two articles listed below, and all went well. More horsepower, torque and best of all no carb farts!
