Default Stock air filter/cover mods?

Has anyone done any modifications to the stock air filter or "ham" can cover?
I know I'll get some more power with an after market filter and a PCIII or other programmer but cash is a little tight now. I would just like to change the look of the stock set up if possible. Please post some pics if you've done this. Thanks.

And while you are at it, if anyone has a tip for painting the Nightster ham can cover, please share. I assumed since the stock cover was textured & matte, would simply try some matte black Rustoleum- wrong- it was a flaky mess and most of it rubbed right off (except one little glossy area- not pretty). I just want plain old matte black...
thanks!

All I did was change it out for the new color matched cover in Vivid Black. I like the look of the glossy finish and that is flows with the color of the rest of the bike now.

Red, you can drill about 20 5/8" holes in the back of the mounting plate along the outside. "Outside the rim where the filter presses against the back" It would also be a good idea to add a K&N type filter and maybe do a jet kit at the same time.

Proper preperation is vital to a good paint job, But I think you know that now.

Prep the area to be painted and try again, it will work out ok in the end.
