Default tank question

ok, im new to this and digging thru the older post i didn't really find what i was looking for.

i have an 05 883. i hate the tank on it. id love to have the peanut tank.

is it a direct bolt-on or do i need to modify a bit?

what year bike can i get the parts off of.

Having started out with the 1200R and a 3.3 gallon tank I can tell you that after going to the 4.5 gallon tank I will never go back. The 4.5 gallons of fuel is carried lower thus decreasing the CG and increasing the qualities of handling. The reduction in fuel range on the 3.3 gallon tank is reason alone to have the 4.5 gallon tank. You can go to the 3.3 but you will need the longer seat to go with it. Folks with the 3.3 are generally in the market for the larger tank.

I love the look of my peanut tank. It does get frustrating sometimes to have to stop for fuel so often. But, I'm usually ready for a leg stretch and smoke break after about 125 miles anyway.

As crapshooter said, you'll need a different seat if you switch tanks. The tank and seat should be for 04 - 06 year models.

ok you have the 4.5 tank now and seat.
the peanut tank will work but your seat will be 1-1/2 or 2" away from tank (gap) like the nightster this set-up still works

The seat can come from the 04-06 883 or 1200. The same will hold true for the 3.3 gallon tank. Put your tank 4.5 gallon tank and seat on the market and they should get picked up quick; for a good price too..
