I hope you don't take everything you find in the internet as gospel.

Did you know that anyone can add or edit information on WiKi? No qualifications or factual knowledge is required.
In this case, the forum is a far more reliable source if you look at what the old timers are telling you.

As said above: Fact - Your bike came with dino oil in it and when it was changed to synthetic, almost a quart of the dino was left in the system. It happens every time you change your oil.

Well, if you started tinkering with motors as a teen like many of us, I'd say 20 years experience qualifies you as an old timer.

Well then I guess I'm an old fart at the age of 34..........Got my first scoot at the age of five or so, and my dad, older brother & I ripped it down that winter for tweakin & painting. Been working, (aka..learning from dad), on stuff ever since. My dad was a Navy jet mechanic way back when.

I guess at 71 that makes me just about a triple old fart. And by the way, I am proud of it, especially to be riding a sportster.

Whether it's true or not, I've heard a lot of negative things about different synthetic oils. I haven't heard anything negative about dino oil. I change every 3.000 miles and would if I used synthetic.

I do the same thing (change oil and filter every 2,500 to 3,000 miles) no matter what type of oil I happen to be running....

Maybe some would consider that 'overkill', but I've followed the same routine for well over 35 years and old habits are hard to break...

3 quarts of oil and a new filter aren't that expensive, and I just like running fresh oil..
