Default Fork tube extensions

Anyone use these? Would this be a cheaper, easier solution to extended fork tubes? Thanks Mark

Seems to me that holding a fork tube with two points would be safer and take a greater side and forward loading than a fork tube that's only clamped in one place. I wouldn't trust it myself.

These were a little more common 20, 30 40 years ago. I have not seen then used much in quite awhile.
Definately a easier way to extend the forks but I think you would be sacrificing some of the strength of one solid down tube.
Also there will be a visible line where it joins with the down tube which (when looking closely) will not look good.

First question to ask, are they DOT. approved? Second, do they meet your local state laws?

I would just buy longer upper tubes. That's what I did to my nightster.

Used to be known as "slugs". As long as the joint is between the upper & lower triple clamps, it is s'posed to be safe. But I saw a few that broke. It ain't pretty, especially when the joint is below the lower tree.

I bought stock tubes & dampening tubes from a custom. 2" more travel.

it really set the bike off, The ride improvement was a + too.

Default Fork Extensions

Trike Your Bike has been using an extension on their kits for a couple years now without any problems. They suggest raking the front when you convert the bike to a trike. Raking the front 5 degrees requires a 4" extension to get the bike to ride at the same height as it did stock. I recently converted my wife's 1200 Nightster to a trike and added a 5 degree trees and a 100mm extension to the forks. It now rides better than without the extensions. I used the extension listed in the link below.

Hope this helps.
