Mobil 1 20w50 automotive oil year round in everything except the 2 strokes. Stuff has no problem even at 0 degrees. Dirt toys, street toys, cages, it goes in all of them and they love it. So do I because it's only $5.00 a quart at Wally World.

The good thing is, your damn motor can't read.

If it says oil on the container, it's pretty much OK to dump in there....

After owning and being around many Harley's for close to 40 years (many of them very high mileage), I've never seen or hear of an oil related problem that wasn't caused by 'rider error', no matter what oil was being used.

Just change the oil and filter at reasonable intervals, and your bike will be fine.

That being said, myself and most of the guys I ride with use regular 'Gold' or 'Silver' cap synthetic Mobil 1 15W-50. Used oil samples that have been sent off for testing show property results as good as many of the "Motorcycle Specific" synthetic oils that cost twice as much for each quart.

In fact quite a few guys I know run the regular 'dino' Rotella T 15W40 oil in their bikes, with the same excellent results after thousands and thousand of miles.... It cost's around $2.50 a quart.

Agree with OFG, but something to ponder becasue Ford did it to me years ago about a warrenty problem. I didn't use a Ford product to replace some brake pads so they wouldn't warrenty the calipers. Becasue of this, I've used Harley oil becasue of the warrenty on my bike. What ever you do, keep the reciet for proof that you did do the oil change. Reason I bring this up is because things are going to get tight because of the economy. Don't give the MoCo a reason to say NO.

I've got Mobil 1 V Twin waiting for the Spring oil change.

In an engine article I read in the last few months, don't know what magazine or article, the author stated that if you needed oil out on the road and didn't have any of your particular oil, any oil with API rating for diesel service would be OK to use.

Any one know what there is about the diesel rating that would make that oil better for V-twin use than standard gasoline engine oil?

I think Mobil 1 15-50 has the diesel API rating along with much of the Rotella oil.
