Default Son-in-law joins the ranks!

My son in law recently bought a '92 Sportster with 20,000 miles for $2,500.00. Someone once took very good care of it. I don't know much about Sportsters but his Title says 883, it's got a Sceaming Eagle intake and Exhaust and keeps right up with my TC88 stage one. Probably a 1200 conversion?
Anyway, He loves it and wants to go riding with me but he gets uncomfortable at about 100 miles.
Christmas is coming up, so what can I get him to make his ride more comfortable? I was thinking about a decent set of aftermarket shocks. Any Ideas?

First and foremost a good seat. Maybe some highway pegs, if he has mid controls now.

A set of Progressive 412 shocks would make for a big improvement and can be had for just under $200. Check out Eastern Performance, they are a forum sponsor and have decent prices.

Maybe even better in terms of long distance comfort would be a decent seat, the stock seat leaves a lot to be desired. If he wants a 2up seat I would recommend the HD Sundowner or the Mustang Wide Vintage Touring, I've had both. The Sundowner is softer than the Mustang but better suited for people with narrow to average width hips. The Mustang is better IMO if his hips are at all on the wide side.

You can see in the pic below that on the Sundowner, a person with wider hips will wind up with their hip bones resting on points A & B and that creates a pressure point that can become uncomfortable after several hours.

Putting the 412 shocks on my bike definatley improved the ride but the seat made 8+ hour days possible.

My 05 883 with stage one only was always dead even with my friends 88ci RK, it could still be a 883, a 1200 is generally faster than a big twin off the line, a lot lighter and both keep up just fine on the highway. 883 can cruise highway speeds plus all day long, good that you have a new riding buddy.

Give him a good kick in the *** to toughen him up!
I'd let him get more miles on the bike first and if he still is uncomfortable get him something to increase the comfort. It took me a while to get use to my seat and now I think its comfortable.

Let him get used to the bike first, he will hint at what he wants. He might even, god forbid, not like to ride and is doing this to impress you and his friends.

Or Jeffbcn could just have his daughter take this guys ***** out of her purse & hand them back to him..........Other than that, I agree with letting him get more miles under his skirt to find out what "he" wants.
