Default Brighter Headlight Bulb

Have any of you gone and traded out the stock bulb for a PIAA, or other aftermarket bulb. I want to increase my noticability as much as possible, and if that means dropping $40 on a bright bulb, i'm all for it. I would also like something that makes the road as bright as possible if i ever go night riding, or get caught in a dusk/evening setting.

What type of bulb goes in our stock headlights? and H3, H4...or something else. Thanks.

H4. Sylvania SilverStar (9003ST) for about $20. Had mine for a couple of months now. Real bright and I know one guy with over a year on his with no probs.

What AZFlyingDiver said. Got 'em in my headlight, passing lamps, truck, car, you get the idea.

Same here; using the Silverstar! Love the little sucker. Brighter than heck and people see me coming.

Also use them on 2 of my trucks.

Thanx guys. Just ordered mine. To replace it, do you take the front glass off, or does it all go through the back? Thanks.

Pretty sure on a Sporty you will have to pull the lens out of the headlight bucket, then change the bulb.

liltrk is correct. Actually, you have to take the headlamp apart starting at the top access cover just as you would if you were simply adjusting the angle of the headlight - you just have to go farther in the disassembly. It's a wise idea to invest in a manual - makes all this stuff a cinch...

P.S. Keep your fingers off the new bulb and wipe it clean when you install it - the oils from your skin will ruin a halogen bulb.

Thanks. I"ve got the latex gloves all ready for when i handle the bulb. Where a good place to get a manual...just pick it up from the local HD dealership? Or ebay it?

Personnaly, I'd order it from Chicago Harley or Surdykes - they give 20% off the regular dealer/stealer price of $48.00... Actually, they both give 20% off ALL parts. The manuals aren't expensive, they're priceless!
