Default Finally got it RIGHT

Well, my stock 06 883 has been giving me a fit. I've drilled out the baffles on the stock pipes, got rid of the CA, now straight through, nice sound, and removed the plastic 883 insert in the air box. Put a 45 low jet and tried a 190 high. Of course the 190 was too much, switched to a 180. The 45 helped, as far as carb farts, but the idle jet (yes, removed plug) was out 3 1/2 turns. So, I got a 48 low jet. Now I wasn't totally satisfied with the top end at this point, but was more concerned with the low jet. I put the 48 in, but after a warm up, I could turn the idle adjust screw all the way in, and it had no effect on the engine. Well, I figured it must be too large, but only 3 numbers up? Hummm? When I went to remove the float bowl to switch back to the 45 jet, I had gas run out, when I loosened the bowl screws.... WTF? Soooo, I went back and re-read this page: http://www.factorypro.com/tech/carbt...m_engines.html And came to the obvious conclusion that my float level was too high. This morning, I removed the float, bent the little tounge a tad, which lowered my float level, and WOW! WHAT A DIFFERENCE, not only does the 48 jet act right now, but my top end is better than it has ever been. Like a New, New bike! It also got rid of the vibration I had picked up at higer rpm ranges, that I had feared was something coming loose inside the engine. Seems as if the high float level was causing an overly rich condition, and a high speed misfire, which caused the vibration. Needless to say, I'm a hap happy boy (of 56)

Good going on the tuning...its always a good feeling when you get the bike running like a champ.
