or should i just sell the piece of shyt before the warranty runs out and buy a proper bike like a ktm superduke

a cracked case is def messed up, sounds like a flaw in the casting to me but a bad crank balance could cause it too ?, it is nice that warrantee will replace it for ya....been around bikes for a long time and that is very rare...i cannot ever remember hearing about that on a sporty case before.
them saying you cannot rev it is bull****, a shop up the street from me has a turbo'd sporty on their showroom floor and it revs like mad, hell i redline mine quite often.
after all it is a man made electrical and mechanical machine, ****s bound to break at some point, thats a guarentee.......even metric bikes break !

Glad the warranty will cover it. Doesn't seem to be a common problem, so you'll come out OK.
"Back in the day" it seemed every Ironhead I took down had cracks in the cases. Most were minor and a good cleaning and a good welder fixed 'em up. When I had my first '72 CH rebuilt while I was overseas, the cases had 14 cracks. None critical & all fixed by Duck, RIP.
Sporties were famous for grenading the tranny trapdoor, and for blowing the lower right rear corner of the tranny case out. There was even a heavy duty casting on the market to replace that corner. Usually when the trapdoor exploded the tranny guts moving at high speed in unintended directions would often cause cracks in the cases.
Much as I don't like the new Sporties not having that trapdoor, it's a stronger motor without it. Even HD gets some things right!

Let's go back a second here. Concerning the last few posts', HD does "NOT" balance any Big Twin cranks anymore, so that will not crack a crankcase. I have built Sporster Performance Flattrackers for years and have had crank issues, never cracked a case. The Iron Sporty's would blast the trap door out of them, but the trap door was cast from soda can aluminum. If you built any power into the motor the trap door could not withstand the constant side loads and fail. The sprocket shaft inserts would also come loose and crack the case inside the primary behind the engine sprocket. Iron's and 4-speed XL's had that issue. Yours does not have that trap door.
You need to ask a few more questions. Did your bike have any oil leaks? The weakest areas of any XL case is in the cam chest near the pinion bearing and the sprocket shaft insert. Where is the case cracked? I have not seen cracked crancases in years. If it is, I would think it would be a casting issue. Get some more details.
