Shops around here charge for the estimate and do it frequently as well.

Yes, you can get aftermarket controls that look & function exactly the same in black or chrome. You can even buy handle bar kits that have the controls prewired in the handle bars.

You can get all your OEM stuff on line and well discounted at Zanotti HD. They even have a price cart that you can check against the P&A book. Last summer I saved a friend almost $1,500 by going there and they ship fast too.

bringing back an old thread here....

I was wondering the same thing. I have a lien on my bike though through eaglemark savings. I was in an accident and the other people didn't have insurance. I can fix it myself for way cheaper than the HD estimated repair costs. So if the insurance check is issued to me and eaglemark, that means I don't get to deposit that sucker in my account eh?

In my wreck last year the check was written to me and to the dealership. I signed it when I was happy with the work. I didn't ask about fixing it myself because insurance covered it all anyway, but I'm sure HD Financial wouldn't want me making major repairs to THEIR motorcycle.

It's sitting at the dealer right now but after the estimate / insurance adjuster is done I should just be able to get it right? I'm pretty sure I can fix it for under what they want. Of course I will do my home work first to make sure. I feel kinda bad about this because they did do the estimates and check the bike over but I'm sure I'd have to pay for that. Anyone ever dealt with stuff like this that can give me some advice. Thanks
I just read about your encounter with a deer. There's plenty around here. We just got our truck out of the shop a few weeks ago because of a deer hitting us. I hope to never hit or be hit by a deer on my bike. Thus far... I've had to swerve, brake & cuss a few times but no hits yet. Roaming dogs are issues too. Not to mention other wildlife I'm look'n out for. Hope thing's work out.
