Default storage...on cement?

Preparing my bike for winter storage. ( Ontario Canada)

I read somewhere... that it is not a good idea to store a motorcycle on a cement floor for extended periods of time.
Put plywood or carpet down?

Why is it a bad idea to store a motorcycle on cement?

I appreciate any comments on this.

Cement has a tendency to dry out the sides faster when the bike is parked for extended periods as does the sun causing dry rot lines.

Always heard it. Can't say for sure. I do know that we have several vehicles parked on concrete with 10-20 year old tires on them that are not dry rotted or cracked.

Default 'old wives' tale?

Maybe it's false.....Maybe there is no problem keeping a bike on cement.

I can't remember where I heard such a thing.

'old wives' tale maybe?

My garage has a cement floor, and I have always tried to move my bikes once a week. Usually just move it a few inches forward or back so it's not sitting on the same spot of the tire all the time.

Eh, a lot of bikes have been sitting still on the dealers floors for longer than a week this year. Their tires ain't rotted off the rims, yet....LOL.

You ride your bike. Anybody that rides a bike will wear the tires out long before they rot.

Funny, though. Some tires seem to last longer than others. My buddies XR1000 has nearly 20 year old Pirelli's on it. The sidewalls still look like new. Same for my Mustang. I put bought the Goodyear tires on it in 1992. Heck, we have a 1977 Ford F-150 that got it's last got tires in about 1985. They still haven't cracked. It sits on concrete in an unheated garage.

All of my bikes live in my shop on a concrete floor and I have never noticed any problems with my tires.
