I recently picked up an 09 Sportster 883 XL, and hated the "mid controls" that came with it.. I negotiated for the forward controls, and boy am I glad I did! I find it's much, much more comfortable riding for any length of time.. My legs cramped up all the time with the mid controls for the first week I had it... Once I went with forward, I was much more comfortable. Highway pegs would be much more comfortable long term for highway riding, but I'm always in stop and go traffic... Forward controls.. Worth every penny!

I went with the adjustable highway peg setup. You can have both that way.

I think it depends on what you want your Sportster to do. Bar hopper? Forwards. Twisty machine? Mids with highway pegs for the long slab rides. I'm sure others will disagree, but I think you have better control with your feet under you, rather than stretched out in front.

I Agree. Your weight distribution and balance with mid-controls gives you better handling in cornering. I sometimes try cornering with my feet on the highway pegs, then I become convinced to stick with mids. I've been riding for over 6 months now, I should know!
