Default 98 Sportster???

O.K. - Wife is looking to buy a first ride. This nieghbor of mine has a 1998 Sportster 1200 custom in his cellar under a pile of rags.

Bike has 704 miles on it yup - that's right 704 saw it with my own eyes. This bike is virtually NEW, and it looks it, not a mark of anything on it - it looks like a brand new showroom bike - no baloney. It is phenominal!!! (Bought for his wife rode 704 miles and decided it wasn't for her) This guy collects Harley's and he appears to have $$$ so it's been sitting ever since with the occasional oil change and dust-offs.

I know NOTHING about Sportsters so I was looking for some pricing help. The bike comes with the stock seat and a solo seat also a detachable windshield. The bike is black with a chrome scrolled Harley logo plaque on the tank and gold and maroon pinstriping.

He's looking for $6800 which I thought was high - but under the circumstances (low miles) maybe I'm wrong (scrathing head on this one). I'm pretty confident I can get him down to $6500 but probably not anymore than that.

So what do you guys think...???

Thanks for the help...

i dont think youd be getting a great deal thats about what its worth up and running like new condition if thats what your looking to spend on a bike id look around and find one with alot of the things youd want on it year shouldnt matter awhole lot as long as you get a evo year bike (86 up )id think it would be dependable there are alot of low mileage sportsters around

With the considerable changes in 2004, you might want to get her one of the many 2004/2005 883s that sell for well under 7K Let her ride the one you've found and ride the demo at the dealer and see which she likes best. I see a nice 2005 883 on HD Trader for $5999.

Anyone interested in a 2005 883L with less thatn 600 miles on it. It's been piped, jetted, stage 1. $7000.00. Bike is brand new and not even broken in yet. Never dropped. Crome speedo. Want pics, let me know.
See the thread here. I dont know how far you are from South Bend Indiana. but there cant be much safer a buy than from a Policeman!
