"Righty tighty / Lefty loosey"! Make sure your phillips head screwdriver is in good condition and the cross tip is the largest that will fit the screw head. It simply unscrews. But it's possible it has been locktited on. Those things used to have a bad reputation of coming off. Get the thumbscrew kit from your local dealer. They'll be happy to overcharge you $15 for it, but IMO it's worth it. Either that or get a hex head screw for it with the right threads and a lock washer (I don't know the thread size). Other than lots of downward pressure and counterclockwise turning, I don't know what else to tell ya to get it off...unless you can have the dealer do it for you without you waiting for a two week appointment and paying an hour labor!

Have you tried pushing down on the back of the pillion while trying to loosen the screw? Teek, that was hilarious about the dealer happily overcharging you for that thumbscrew, ain't it the truth, but please, it hurts to laugh right now.

If I remember correctly, it is 1/4-20 threads. I bought the thumb screw from the stealer so I could easily swap between the factory solo seat and the badlander seat for two up riding. I never cared for the phillips head screw, so, when I have the solo seat on, I put 1-4/20 x 3/8 stainless steel button head (allen head) screw in the rear pillion hole. Fastenal said thay actually can get those in black oxide which would match the fender better. You can pick up the 1-4/20 screws at Lowes and Menards also. I hope this helps someone.

Both my Dyna an Sportster use a 1/4 x 28 NF bolt or screw to hold the seat in place.
