Thanks for the link
But as the way my luck goes (LOL) not much info on mine shows the 1200s started in 1996 was updated in 1998 with dual plug heads and hotter cams (mine is a 1999) but does not say when the stopped making them.

I think they were still making them last year. I took the Riders' Edge course and they had a brand spanking new one there. I know because I dropped it with less than 10 miles on the clock.

Im not sure if this is a perfect answer, but I put the following in google:

2007 Harley 1200S Sport (Nothing really)
2006 Harley 1200S Sport (Nothing Really)
2005 Harley 1200S Sport (Nothing Really)
2004 Harley 1200S Sport (Nothing Really)
2003 Harley 1200S Sport (TONs of Links)

This leads me to believe 2003 was the last year of this model.

Mine is a 2003 1200S and it is the last year the S model was made. I has the twin spark plug heads (Thunderstorm, by Buel) and highly adjustable suspension shocks and forks, which no other model had. The R model was the closest thing in later years and they don't make it any more either. In my opinion, the 1200S defines the word "Sportster" best.
