Loss of power at low acceleration
#11
When in neutral and I give it gas it runs up smooth as it can be. I checked the float bowl tolerance because I had read that somewhere if it was out of tolerance this could cause it to run too lean. It checked out to be within the accepted tolerance. The accelerator pump is squirting gas. The idle mix screw is at 2 1/2 turns. I am running Basani drag pipes, no SE A/C. I am using the service manual and i've done everything that the manual requires regarding the carb. I hadn't thought about the enrichener valve not seating. I will check that. I am going to tear the carb down one more time and reinstall the old jets again. Your comment about it not doing the same thing at idle makes me believe I should be looking at the clutch though.

The clutch has nothing to do with it. There I think enough of us told you that now. Mine used to do the same thing. You might want to change the air cleaner while your doing this. Why did you change the jets in the first place? "any mods"? Why did you go to a smaller slow jet?
After turning your air/fuel screw out to 2.5 turns, did you run it in till the bike stumbled and then back out till it smoothed out? The bike should of been completely warmed up and the idle set right before you adjusted it.
If you soaked the whole carb in carb cleaner did you make sure not to soak the rubber gaskets?

I wanted to post an update to let all of you know thanks for all the direction. This has been a real learning process but I'm understanding more about the process. I went back to the 48 slow jet and tuned the idle mix screw per the directions I found in here and the problem has resolved itself. I'm extremely pleased with myself that with everyone's help I was able to get past this carb issue. Thanks again.

Yeah, if you're not opening up both ends, don't **** with the carb....lol. Good lesson to learn.
Lesson two...if you don't know what you're doing...stop and ask someone. Google is also the new-age mechanics' greatest tool, my friend. Use it, and use it often.
Glad you got it all back together and running right.
