I did this to mine in conjunction with slip-on exhaust. It made so much difference that I had to re-jet. Performance was greatly improved but even more so after the re-jet.

You can't remove it completely without installing a breather by-pass because the beather system is built into it.

There are DIY articles on the site for jetting, and you can pick up a manual. However, for this to work you need a free flowing air cleaner and exhaust system. The whole idea is to get more fuel and air through the system, thus increasing horsepower. Many dealers won't touch this work for EPA considerations, but you can find an independent if you don't want to do the work yourself.

I bought a jet kit with main, pilot, and bowl screws for $7 shipped.
Guy named Sorgy on eBay. Spelled s0rgy i think.
After the purchase, he emails you detailed instructions with pics for your specific carb.

You need a screw driver, couple wrenchs, blue locktite, and about 30 minutes. You'll also need a small hose clamp to replace the one-time factory clamp on the fuel line if you take the carb completely off the bike.
