Default shortest rear shocks for a nightster?

I'd like to lower my nightster a bit and am assuming throwing on some shorter rear shocks is the best way to go. What are the shortest shocks you can put on there without the rear wheel hitting the fender? I've heard about a 10" swap... anyone put on anything shorter?

lowest I'd go is 10"...anything more than that and you risk hitting your fender. The N is already low, and I scrape the sides on the twisties pretty easily at stock height...any lower and I feel like I wouldn't be able to turn the bike as much.

first off the nighster stock shocks are already 11" so if you wanna stay with shocks licks sells short shocks in 10" standard or heavy duty www.lickscycles.com they also have 10" struts. the 4" lowering would just be form a standard sportster not a low or nightster. there are also lowering blocks and kits but these change the angles of the shocks and cause a really rough ride as well as change the pressure areas which is not always good. basically your best bet is 10" shocks or get 11" progressive with better spring rate. if you go with struts and a spring seat you can chop the fender and lower it closer to the tire with no worries of rubbing.

Skydoc, that is a super clean ride you got. I've been thinking about getting some hard shell bags and tossing my throw-overs.
